Sometimes two colors are enough to express your feelings of escape. Escape from reality, escape from yourself…
I am a Ukrainian-American artist working with alcohol ink medium. Through the vibrancy and richness of alcohol inks, I have a chance to connect with my most precious childhood memories about growing up in Ukraine. The vibrancy of colors and meditative effect of the painting process enable me to relive the experiences of the Ukrainian summer, abundant in colorful flowers, fragrant fruits and exotic melismatic folk singing.
I was fortunate to discover alcohol ink media about three years ago when I was coping with the personal traumatic experiences. The forgiving and meditative qualities of alcohol inks helped me connect with my inner child and heal myself through art. When I started painting, I realized how much inspiration I harbored in me from continuously observing nature with its subtle shades of flowers, unkempt clouds and soothing sounds of the ocean. In creating my art, I am guided by my inspiration for color selection and design and I follow my intuition for detailed work and final touches.
The recent war in Ukraine has left me devastated, helpless and angry. It is hard and sometimes even impossible to believe in the future of Ukraine but I do. I know that someday Ukraine will be the same way I remember it, the same way I still want to portray it in my paintings...blooming, colorful and beautiful.
